Salford New Bailey
Salford, in Greater Manchester, sits in an attractive location on a bend of the Irwell River and is three miles from the centre of the city. From an obscure village, it grew to become a major player in the Industrial Revolution as a cotton town, eclipsing even Manchester in importance at one point. The People’s History Museum in Salford advertises itself as a ‘museum of democracy’. It hosts numerous events throughout the year and has permanent exhibition space too, so you can happily spend a day here.
